What is HEIC and why convert it?
Since iOS 11 in 2017, iPhones save photos as HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) by default. HEIC keeps the same quality as JPG at roughly half the file size, which saves a lot of phone storage. The catch is compatibility: many Windows PCs, older Android apps, website builders, job portals and government forms still can't open or accept HEIC files.
This converter reads the HEIC photo, applies the rotation your phone recorded so pictures don't appear sideways, and saves a standard JPG or PNG. It works with HEIF files from other phones and cameras too.
Phone photos often contain GPS coordinates, the phone model and the exact time the picture was taken. When we convert your photo, that metadata is removed by default, so you can share the JPG without revealing where it was taken. Colour profiles are kept, so colours stay accurate.
Using the HEIC to JPG / PNG Converter for your business
Most business photos now come from a phone. Converted iPhone photos of your team, premises and finished work are exactly what a strong Google Business Profile needs, and regular fresh photos are part of how we keep profiles active and ranking in the map pack with our local SEO service.
How to use the HEIC to JPG / PNG Converter
- Add your HEIC photos. AirDrop or copy them to your computer, then drag them in, or upload straight from your iPhone's Files app.
- Choose JPG or PNG. JPG is right for almost every photo. PNG is lossless but produces much larger files.
- Set quality. 90 keeps the photo looking identical to the original.
- Click Convert. Each photo is converted and correctly rotated.
- Download. Save single photos or download all of them as a ZIP.

How to stop your iPhone saving HEIC (if you prefer JPG)
If you regularly need JPG, you can change the camera setting: open Settings, tap Camera, then Formats, and choose Most Compatible. New photos will be saved as JPG. Existing photos stay as HEIC, which is where this converter helps.
Another option: when you share photos from an iPhone by email or to some apps, iOS converts them to JPG automatically. Under Settings, Photos, the Transfer to Mac or PC option set to Automatic does the same when you copy photos with a cable.
For businesses, converting job photos to JPG matters when you upload them to your Google Business Profile, which accepts JPG and PNG. Fresh photos of real work are one of the simplest ways to make a profile more trustworthy to customers.
Converting in batches is the quickest way to deal with a whole album. Select the photos in the Files app or Photos on your Mac, upload up to ten at a time, and download the ZIP. If you only need one image for a form, choose JPG at quality 85 and run it through the image compressor afterwards if the form has a size limit.
Is it safe to upload my files?
Your files are processed on our own server, not sent to any third-party service, and are deleted automatically 30 minutes after processing. We strip location data from photos when converting them, and we never use your files for anything else.
Frequently asked questions
Why can't I open HEIC files on Windows?
Windows needs an extra codec for HEIC. Converting to JPG avoids that and lets anyone open the photo.
Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?
At quality 90 the difference isn't visible. The JPG will usually be larger than the HEIC, because HEIC compresses more efficiently.
Will my photos be rotated correctly?
Yes. We apply the orientation saved by your iPhone before converting.
Is my location removed from the photo?
Yes. GPS and camera details are removed from the converted file by default.
Can I convert Live Photos?
We convert the still image. The short video part of a Live Photo isn't included.
